Richard Davison is Chairman of the Board of directors of IPAV Limited. His role as Chairman is to ensure that the Board operates as an effective working group, to ensure that there is a good working relationship between the Board and executive Management, to ensure that the Company’s approved strategies, goals, and values are being implemented, to have an overview of executive Management’s operational performance and results, to maintain an impartial and objective perspective of the Company’s different constituencies, and to be a sounding board when required.
Richard graduated with a BCL degree, postgraduate in European & Comparative Law (France and Germany), qualified as a Solicitor, and practised in the Company Dept. of Norton Rose an international law firm in London. Richard later joined BTG plc, a public company based in the City of London. In the following years Richard covered all Intellectual Property/ Contract/Commercial law areas of BTG’s global IP acquisition, research, development, commercialisation, joint ventures and loans work, eventually specialising in Life Science inventions and patents in the field of Medicine and Pharmaceuticals. His work included the worldwide licensing of BTG’s key MRI patents.
In 2000, Richard headed BTG’s expanding UK/USA Life Sciences legal team applying his extensive IP transactional expertise, managing litigation, advising BTG’s Board, mentoring colleagues, and with other legal corporate and operational responsibilities. He was a founding investor, non-executive director and Board Chairman of a company owning patents and having to litigate against infringers in Europe. He has significant experience in negotiating with international and domestic Japanese companies and is writing a small book on the subject.
Richard reads and speaks good French, reasonable Spanish, is undertaking DIY renovation of his old barn near Bordeaux, enjoys organ playing and organ construction, opera, woodturning, and appreciates good red wine. In his youth he was 1st reserve for the Irish International Squash Team, played for various London Clubs, and since then has been a team squash player (some tennis) and committee member of the Wimbledon Club where he is a life member.
