Patent Watch

Context: A number of executives in a major chemicals and reagent manufacturer were frustrated with long lead times, poor quality and high costs of patent searches being conducted by their internal team – the majority of whom had limited life science experience. Therefore, after a number of recommendations from trusted members of our mutual networks IPAV met with the team to better understand their immediate and long-term needs.

Solution: IPAV swiftly agreed fixed pricing for regular patent watches for the company in areas of particular technical and strategic interest, This offering was both more cost-effective and offered a richer dataset than previous in-house capacity. IPAV then met with the in-house IP team to understand their bottlenecks and how IPAV could best support their development, without duplicating effort or incurring unnecessary cost and/or complexity.

Outcome: IPAV now provides regular training for internal IP counsel on emerging healthcare technologies and innovations in patent strategy and intelligence tools. After an honest and mutual analysis, it was determined that the internal IP counsel did not have the capacity or training to use all features of their data subscription to a leading patent landscaping tool. Therefore, IPAV were appointed to provide these features as an outsourced and cost-effective function for the entire organisation.
